4 banks donate Tk 15.2cr to PM’s relief fund to combat coronavirus

Four private banks have donated a total of Tk 15.20 crore to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund to help combat the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the country.

Premier Bank donated Tk 5 crore to the prime minister’s relief fund to combat the spread of COVID-19 on Sunday, said a press release.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina attended the donation handover ceremony through a video conference, said a release issued by the bank.

Premier Bank managing director and CEO M Reazul Karim along with deputy managing director Syed Nowsher Ali handed over the donation cheque to principal secretary to the prime minister Ahmad Kaikaus.

Mercantile Bank donated Tk 5 crore to the relief fund on Tuesday as part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility activities to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, said a press release issued by the bank.

Representatives from the bank handed over the cheque to the Bangladesh Association of Banks, said a release.

United Commercial Bank donated Tk 5 crore to the fund through electronic fund transfer on Monday.

It was initiated as part of the bank’s CSR commitment to expedite government activities to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

NRB Commercial Bank donated Tk 20 lakh to the fund to combat the virus on Monday, said a release.

The bank also set up a fund of Tk 2.75 crore to support the poor, destitute and volunteers during the crisis, said a release. (Source: New Age)
