Bangladesh Cricket Board announces financial support for DPL players

Bangladesh Cricket Board on Saturday announced a one-time financial assistance to support Dhaka Premier League cricketers, who are not in its national or first-class contract.

As part of the initiative, about 70 cricketers from different clubs will receive a one-time amount of Tk 30,000 to support their expenses during the League’s stoppage due the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in the country.

The Dhaka Premier Cricket League was postponed on March 19 after just one completed round of matches in compliance with the directive from the ministry of youth and sports and measures taken by the government to fight the coronavirus outbreak.

‘With the tournament looking at an indefinite period of shut down, cricketers who are not part of the BCB’s contracts are likely to face financial hardship as they may have only received partial payment from their respective Premier League clubs,’ BCB president Nazmul Hasan said in a statement.

‘This assistance is for that section of the players,’ he said.

The BCB has currently 17 players in its national payroll and another 78 players under first-class payroll.
