Police bar LDA march towards Bangladesh Bank

Police on Wednesday thwarted a Left Democratic Alliance march towards Bangladesh Bank protesting at ‘the failure of the central bank to contain anarchies in the banking sector of the country’.
The marchers, after holding a short rally in front of the National Press Club, started their march towards the central bank.

Police stopped the marchers at Danik Bangla crossing erecting barricade.

The marchers sat on the street and held a rally, where coordinator of the alliance Bazlur Rashid Firoj, lambasted the Bangladesh Bank for its failure in stopping corruption in the banking sector.

He warned that the LDA would go for tougher movement if the plunder in banking sector would not end.

Communist Party of Bangladesh general secretary Mohammad Shah Alam said that the government had measurably failed to combat corruption in the financial sector.

He also said that the leaders of the ruling parties were directly and indirectly connected with the corruption and embezzlement activities, and these people were plundering the banks and public money.

Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki condemned the police action on the LDA march and said that though the government had been claiming significant development, but in fact there were the plunderers who were looting the banks and public property without any visible barrier.

Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh general secretary Saiful Huq said that that the government had so far failed to arrest BASIC Bank chairman Abdul Haye Bachhu.

Democratic Revolutionary Party general secretary Mushrefa Mishu called on all left and democratic political parties to wage movement to save the banking sector of the country.

Chaired by Bazlur Rashid Firoj, United Communist League central leader Abdus Satter and Socialist Party of Bangladesh central leader Manas Nandi, Hamidul Haque and others spoke at the rally.

A ten-member delegation of the combine, led by Bazlur Rashid Firoj, met Bangladesh Bank governor Fazle Kabir and handed over a petition to him. (Source: New Age)
