Number of internet subscribers nears 10cr in February

The number of mobile internet subscribers in the country increased by 7.38 lakh in February with the number of internet subscribers reaching close to 10 crore.

According to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission data, the number of total internet subscribers increased to 9.99 crore at the end of February from 9.92 crore in January this year.

It took one and a half years to reach 10 crore subscribers after attaining the ninecrore mark in August, 2018.

Of the internet subscribers, the number of mobile subscribers increased to 9.42 crore at the end of February from 9.35 crore subscribers a month ago.

The number of broadband and WiMax internet subscribers, however, remained unchanged at 57.48 lakh in February.

On the other hand, the number of mobile phone subscribers increased by 4.99 lakh in February.

The number of mobile subscribers reached 16.61 crore at the end of February from 16.56 crore a month earlier.

Leading mobile phone operator Grameenphone lost 6.09 lakh subscribers, pulling down its subscriber-base to 7.59 crore at the end of February from 7.65 crore a month ago.

The lone state-owned mobile phone operator, Teletalk, also lost 4,000 customers in February, dropping its subscriber base to 4.87 crore.

Banglalink and Robi gained 8.22 lakh and 2.9 lakh subscribers respectively in February.

The subscriber bases of Banglalink and Robi have now risen to 3.58 crore and 4.96 crore respectively. (Source: New Age)
